Uphold the principals of Fun, Competition, and Sportsmanship in a venue of paddlers in both a recreational and competitive spirit on the waters of the Brazos River.
GENERAL STATEMENT ON ROTB 2012
The Knights of Columbus welcomes all participants to the Race on the Brazos 2012. We are here to provide a race venue that will challenge and provide meaningful memories for your time on the Brazos. All participants are invited to attend a BBQ Lunch before the awards ceremony. There will be plenty of parking spaces and access available.
This race will aid some of the local charitable organizations in the Richmond/Rosenberg area. This year’s charitable organizations to be helped are:

Adventure Class
Looking for a fun race with a flare for adventure and challenge? There are several reasons for entering this class: new to the sport, new boat, just want to enjoy the Brazos in a mild but adventuresome spirit. Then this race is for you. Adventure class boats include but not limited to aluminum, plastic, abs, touring kayaks, surf skis, sea kayaks and sit on tops. No fiberglass canoes.
Inflatables and rowing sculls are not allowed in the ROTB 2012
All Adventure class participants will be assigned a start time at registration. Your race time begins at that time no exceptions. Pre Race instructions will indicate if protage is necessary prior to the race.
Adventure Class Race Course Description:
The race course and start times have not been set as we are monitoring the water levels.
Adventure Class Age Restrictions:
Any solo participant must be at least 18 years of age.
Any tandem participant must be at least 14 years of age and travel with an adult at all times.
A parental consent form must be completed and a document of proficiency in canoeing is required for all participants under 18 yrs.
All scouts will participate in the Adventure class only if the requirements of parental consent and adult participation in the race are met.
Adventure Class Mandatory Equipment List:
Personal flotation Device PFD class 1, 11, or 111 in a non repaired condition, approved by the US Coast Guard for each participant.
PFD must be worn throughout the race with a numbered bib..
Cell phones or 2 way communication device.
1 whistle per boat.
First Aid kit.
Spare paddle.
˝ gallon of drinking water per participant.
adequate lengths of 3/8” rope up to 15’ each, 2 recommended.
Competitor Class
The competitor class is geared for the competitive marathon canoe racer. It is the longest race at the ROTB 2012. This class requires endurance and good racing skills. Previous canoe racing experience is recommended.
Launch location will be 3 miles west of Simonton, FM1093 at specified start time. The water may be high or low with typical hazard for a river run. This is an excellent venue for those training for longer races in the year. It will finish at Community Park in Rosenberg.
Competitor Class Race Course Description:
The Race on the Brazos 2012 Competitor Class begins at 8:00 am 3 miles west of Simonton on FM1093 at designated times scheduled at registration. The Brazos River meanders and is high or low with a medium to fast flow. The course proceeds past the FM723 bridge for a distance of about 35 miles. All competitor class participants will be assigned a start time at registration. Your race begins with that time, no exceptions. Dependent on the water level, a portage may be required at rocky falls near George Park. Pre Race instructions will indicate if portage is necessary prior to the race.
Competitor Class Age Restrictions:
All participants must be 18 years or older to participate in this class.

REFUND POLICY: THE RACE ON THE BRAZOS 2012 IS A CHARITY EVENT BENEFITING LOCAL CHARITIES. OUR EXPENSES ARE SPREAD OUT OVER 12 MONTHS AND YOUR FEES ARE GEARED TO THE PAYMENT OF EXPENSES AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE NAMED CHARITIES. THEY ARE COUNTING ON THE SUCCESS OF THE RACE AND YOUR GENEROUS CONTRIBUTIONS. REFUNDS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED AS A GENERAL RULE. THE RACE ON THE BRAZOS 2012 WILL BE RESCHEDULED AT A LATER DATE SHOULD INCLEMENT WEATHER OR DANGEROUS WATER CONDITIONS DICTATE. EXCEPTIONS MUST BE PRESENTED TO THE RACE DIRECTORS FOR CONSIDERATION.
